Resumen : Aim: Evaluate the perception of the Primary Health care professionals working in the Sanitary Area III of the Principality of Asturias regarding their own knowledge and the challenges they face when dealing with cases of gender-based violence. Method: transversal descriptive study via a PREMIS questionnaire to Primary Health care nurses, doctors and social workers of the sanitary area III of Asturias. A descriptive analysis and logistic regression was made to estimate confidence intervals (CI) at 95%. Results: Response rate of 56,81%. 78% of participant have any training (average of 11 hours, median of 3), referring feel minimally prepared in several questions. 28% identified at least one new case in the last 6 months OR: 12 (CI: 1,15-125). 60% once they asked by gender-based violence, asking only 76% to indicators of abuse in the medical history or physical examination. 65 % know that there is a protocol in their unit considering 72% used relatively. A case, 86.8 % do not offer the national telephone line, although 71% shunt social work. Conclusions: professionals are unprepared, feeling insecure. Training seems important to identify new cases but not to ask, influencing socio-demographic aspects of professional. Most do not perform routine screening, acting on the basis of evidence and as resources, the most offered is social work.
