Resumen : Aims Determine the relationship between Mini Nutritional Assessment test and anthropometric parameters body mass index to assess malnutrition in people over 65 years noninstitutionalized belonging to an urban health center primary care. Methodology An analytical, transversal study was designed for people over 65 years, including in the census of health card of Health Center Urban Primary Care. The selection of the sample was performed by stratified random sampling by age group and sex. To all, we applied a structured and validated for socio-demographic data and the Mini Nutritional Assessment Test, as the primary method of data collection questionnaire. Results In the sample they were analyzed 100 patients, 53.5% were women. The mean age was 77.5 (± 7.58) range from 65-101 years. Among the variables analyzed it was obtained significant correlation between Mini Nutritional Assessment test and body mass index (p = -0.029), and the number of drugs and the number of chronic conditions analyzed in the sample (p = 0.002). The prevalence of malnutrition was 4%. Conclusions In most of the sample normal nutritional status was observed, however, a large proportion were obese. Therefore, in our study, the Mini Nutritional Assessment Test and Body Mass Index are inconclusive parameters malnutrition.
