Sobre el uso de herramientas informáticas para la cuantificación cerámica: el EVE 2.0

Abstract

In the following lines, a renewal of the quantification index EVE («estimated vessel equivalent») ispresented. Using the Geoespatial Information Technologies, especially the GIS, CAD and 3D modelling,we propose the EVE 2.0. This method of quantification is able to asign to each pottery fragmentsa percentage value with respect to entirety, regardless of other elements or variables whichcould modify this measurement. In this sense, we are able to relate this units of analysis (potteryfragments) with a specific artefact or vessel. From a quantitative point of view, the EVE 2.0 is an impartial measurement, not affected by fracturability. It can obtain information about the proportions of a specific type inside a group, and allows us to compare proportions among groups. Finally,the use of the percentage value is a required procedure which allow us to plan more sophisticated methods of quantification.
