Resumen: Objective: To identify the degree of knowledge of post-surgical pain in nurses of Reanimación and Urpa and to know if there are differences due to sociodemographic characteristics. To assess the existence of inequalities in the level of knowledge of pain in terms of service, contract, seniority and training. Method: An observational, analytical and transversal study that was carried out in the Reanimations and URPAS . The study subjects were nurses working in these units. Demographic, labor and training variables were collected. To assess the knowledge and attitudes, the validated questionnaire Nurses' Knoweledge at Attitudes Survey Regarding Pain was used. Results: Of the 60 questionnaires delivered, 49 (81.6%) were correctly filled out. 61.2% reported having received training on pain. Seventy percent of the respondents mistakenly responded that it was necessary to rely on changes in vital signs to verify the pain. 85.7% accurately reported that the patient is the most accurate judge of pain intensity. The test presented an average of 22.1 correct answers (min 15 max 29), stating that only 22.4% of the participants had an average / good knowledge about pain in the postoperative patient. Differences in results were observed depending on the unit of work. Conclusion: The knowledge about pain in the study subjects is not adequate. It would be necessary to make a formative intervention and its impact evaluated.
