El futuro de las razas autóctonas asturianas

Abstract

A number of people and groups have played a decisive role in the process of recovering autochthonous Asturian breeds. With huge efforts and a great deal of care, they have managed to maintain this invaluable farming heritage alive. It is now the Breeders' Associations that, when backed by the necessary official recognition, manage the genealogical registries of these breeds and others that they promote. The Animal Production, Animal Genetics and Reproduction, Animal Selection and Reproduction, Animal Nutrition, Pasture and Fodder and Health Services of the Regional Agrifood Research and Development Service (SERIDA), which in turn depends on the Principality of Asturias Regional Ministry of Rural Environment and Fisheries, has been working with autochthonous breeds in a number of ways.
