El comercio entre Asturias y China en el período 1994-2007: los patrones comerciales y los efectos de la liberalización comercial

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to describe the trade of goods between Asturias and China in period 1994-2007, basing on theory of international trade. The analysis is done both static (trade patterns) and dynamic (liberalization results of the Uruguay Round and China's accession to the WTO). In regard to dynamic analysis, several institutional measures aimed to reduce trade barriers appear to have a positive effect on trade development between Asturias and China, both in terms of trade volume (value), as on the number of tariff items included therein. With regard to static analysis, trade is basically interindustry and seems to fit well with expected patterns according to Heckscher and Ohlin theory, that is, Asturias exports capital intensive goods and China exports labor and natural resources intensive goods. Regarding the intra-industry trade, it highlights the importance of multinational or highly internationalized companies.
