Abstract

Objectives: Understand and analyze the views and suggestions of Asturias community nurses on the state of the profession and the health system Method: Descriptive and qualitative study. Subjects: Primary Care Nurses in Asturias. Data collection: Through group meetings. Two groups were formed, and invited nurses who could not attend personally, sent written information. The meetings were coordinated by two persons. Results: The internal analysis of the strengths noted that the nurse has a model-oriented care and support for self care; biopsychosocial approach and promotion and prevention; Among the weaknesses still dominates the medical role and organizational rigidity; Analysis of opportunities reflects demographic changes and development of the specialty, And the threats shows the lack of political commitment to primary care. Conclusions: The health system has highly qualified nursing professionals with extensive experience and great capacity to adapt to change, which allows giving quality care. AP nurses are based on a model of care focused on self-care with a biopsychosocial approach away from the biomedical model and the medicalization of health. Strategies are proposed to emerge stronger and learning opportunities that the current change upon us, and find and implement initiatives that make it more functional and sustainable health system.
