Contribución al mapa de establecimientos benéfico-asistenciales en Asturias durante la Edad Media. La malatería de Ambasmestas-La Abedul, en el concejo de Miranda

Abstract

Located in the South of the Council of Miranda, the malateria of La Abedul was unknown for regional historiography until present, although many reports were already known long time ago. This leper colony changed its location in the late 14th Century to the near village Ambasmestas. In this paper I shall identify the relationship between the two locations, analyze the causes of this change and study its history during the Middle Ages. I examine their origins, their economic basis, their charity policy in the territorial context and their relationship with the monastery of Belmonte and the surrounding inhabitants.
