Resumen : | Non-invasive Positive Pressure Ventilation (NPPV) is considered an alternative ventilatory support system to Invasive Positive Pressure Ventilation (IPPV). It was in the 80s its generalization to treat multiple pathologies. Because of its present relevance, we set ourselves to the task of undertaking a study about its use in BiPAP mode, setting up the following primary targets: To evaluate the effectiveness of the BiPAP and to determine the tolerance of patients to the BiPAP. A descriptive and retrospective study was carried out in 49 patients on whom BiPAP had been applied. The statistical analysis was made according to Student´s test, taking a value of statistical meaning of p<0,05 The statistical analysis contributed significant differences to all the registered Non-invasive Positive Pressure Ventilation (NPPV) is considered an alternative ventilatory support system to Invasive Positive Pressure Ventilation (IPPV). A descriptive and retrospective study was carried out in 49 patients on whom BiPAP had been applied. The statistical analysis was made according to Student´s test, taking a value of statistical meaning of p<0,05 The statistical analysis contributed significant differences to all the registered cardiorrespiratory variables and to most of the gas exchange variables obtained. The BiPAP was well tolerated in 83.67% of the cases, and its effectiveness was demonstrated in 67,34%. Unwanted effects appeared in 30%, being desaturation and anxiety the most frequent. No sores by pressure were registered in relation to the used interfaces. After the successful completion of our study we have obtained encouraging results that keep us betting on the development of NPPV in BiPAP mode. |
