Abstract

When we analyse the movements that each finger does in order to play the different positions of the first octave of the instrument (E3 to E4), we can observe that the little finger does the 41.6% of the work. As well as having to fight the resistance of the most demanding and further located keys in the clarinet. The fifth finger is in charge of producing the vital sounds connecting the two largest registers in the clarinet (chalumeau and clarín). These small fingers are anatomically the least strong and clarinetists tend not to pay enough attention to this reality. The study presented in this article have been formulated to tackle this issue, with the hope that musicians will gain on independence, strength, agility and coordination.
