The Life and Death of Marina Abramović de Robert Wilson: confluencia de poéticas

Abstract

The collaboration between contemporary artists Marina Abramović and Robert Wilson materialized in 2011 in the operatic project "The Life and Death of Marina Abramović," which premiered at the 2011 Mánchester Festival and was performed in 2012 at the Teatro Real in Madrid. The creative team consists of Marina Abramović, pop singer Antony Hegarty Hegarty, and Robert Wilson. Marina Abramović herself, along with actors Willen Dafoe and Hegarty, lead the cast of this contemporary opera. The show is based on the biography of Serbian artist Marina Abramović. The most significant events in the performer's personal and artistic life are brought to the stage, idealized through the symbolist and expressionist treatment provided by Robert Wilson's stage direction. This study analyzes the artistic elements of the show, its structure, and, above all, how its interdisciplinary approach transcends the boundaries of conventional representation, offering an experience that fuses visual elements related to contemporary art and performance art with experimental and narrative sound components. After analyzing the staging of this opera, we will proceed to assess the impact of the confluence of these creators with such personal poetics.
