Resumen : | Introduction Natural disasters are unexpected situations, which will produce a series of emotional reactions of greater or lesser severity in their survivors, with the consequent increase of psychiatric morbidity, especially in children, for being one of the most vulnerable groups because of their less understanding of what happened and difficulty to express their feelings. The work of primary care nurse will consist of understanding the situation and act according to it, without forgetting the fundamental role of parents in the total recovery of the children. Description The sequelae caused by exposure to the trauma caused by natural disasters, both psychological and physiological (different according to the age ranges) should be treated by their corresponding nurse of primary care in collaboration with parents, and sometimes, depending on the severity and persistence of them, will be a referral to a mental health professional taking into account a number of recommendations and assessment criteria. Conclusions Parents or guardians along with health professionals, have a very important role in the recovery of their children, because the reactions of children will be very much influenced by the parents. |
