Resumen : Objective: To assess the level of knowledge among type 2 diabetic patients about their disease. Method: this is an observational, descriptive and coss study. It is used a validated questionnaire, which was completed by type 2 diabetic patients, ages 50 to 79 who chose to participate in the study belonging to the Health Center Alcora ( Castellón) For a confidence level of 95 %, a sample of 205 individuals is required. Results There is a significant difference between years of evolution of diabetes mellitus, patients with between 0-4 years of evolution have a 63 % (95% ± 3.1 ) to correct questionnaire responses, with 5-9 years of evolution 49% (95% ± 2.7 ) and 10 or more years 41.4 % (95% ± 4.6 ). Conclusions: There is a lack of knowledge about diabetic foot and insulin management, as both aspects are part of the mainstay of treatment (none of these questions exceed 75 % correct answers). The creation of a structured diabetes education to use from the moment the patient is diagnosed with T2DM protocol is necessary.
