Resumen : Introduction Photovoice method is a participative tool that is able to show a communal reality by photography and direct intervention of the community. It is a community-based participatory research that can encourage an active empowerment about the social and health situation. Its essential goal is the promotion of change through the active participation and communication between the different community levels. Description In this review, we address the fundamental bases of Photovoice, like its methodological origins, use sectors, basic characteristics, advantages and disadvantages or the methodology for its establishment. The principal aim of this article is to give the required tools for managing Photovoice, highlighting its different phases: team conception, team composition, previous formation, material delivery, matter choice, informed consents, take photos, discussion, collection and analysis of results and results diffusion. Conclusions Following this strategy, it is possible to raise information about the community situation, to train population to foment the individual and collective health improvement, likewise taking the collected results to responsible people to produce extracommunity changes.
